Wartime runway
The airport on the southwestern plain uses a runway laid out during the 1944 Allied occupation. It is a long, straight line on an otherwise organic island map.

Morotai Island Map Poster & Print
Morotai is the northernmost island of North Maluku in eastern Indonesia and lies just north of Halmahera across a strait. Most of the island is rugged and covered in forest, with rivers draining to a coast of reefs and small offshore islets. The main town, Daruba, sits on the southern shore, where the land flattens into a coastal plain.
In September 1944 Allied forces landed on Morotai and built airfields on this southern plain, using the island as a base for the campaigns in the Philippines and Borneo. The island is also remembered for Private Teruo Nakamura, a soldier of the Imperial Japanese Army who stayed hidden in its forests until 1974, nearly three decades after the war ended.
A Morotai Island map poster reflects the split between the settled south and the wild north. The streets of Daruba and the long, straight runway stand out in the southwest, while the rest of the island is drawn mainly by its coastline and rivers. Small islands offshore add a scattered, dotted edge to the composition.

Daruba waterfront
The main town stretches along the southern coast, facing the strait toward Halmahera. Its streets are the densest area of detail on the island.
Offshore islets
Small islands are scattered off the southwest coast, including Zum Zum, which is associated with General Douglas MacArthur. They add a delicate cluster of shapes at the edge of the sheet.

Məna daşıyan xəritə
Morotai interests people with family ties to Maluku, divers drawn to its reefs and anyone who follows the history of the Pacific war. A map poster is a measured way to remember the island, showing the scale of its forests alongside the few places where people settled and history was made.
