Clinton River bends
The river enters from the west and swings through the city in wide loops before heading east to Lake St. Clair. On a poster these curves are the strongest graphic element.

Mount Clemens Map Poster & Print
Mount Clemens sits in southeast Michigan, where the Clinton River loops through town on its way to Lake St. Clair. From above, the river is the main line. It curls around the downtown blocks, and the streets bend to follow it instead of keeping to a strict grid. Residential streets spread outward in short, uneven rectangles and meet the wider suburban road network of Macomb County at the edges.
The city is the county seat of Macomb County, so its centre holds a group of civic buildings around a small downtown. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries it was known for mineral bathhouses fed by local springs. They drew visitors from across the region and gave the city the nickname Bath City. The bathhouses are gone, but the compact core they supported remains.
A Mount Clemens map poster reduces all of this to black lines on white: the river's curves, the tight blocks of the old centre and the looser suburban streets around them. To the east, the land runs toward the lake and the grounds of Selfridge Air National Guard Base, which leaves open space along one side of the composition.

County seat core
A small downtown of short blocks and civic buildings reflects the city's role as seat of Macomb County. It is the densest patch of streets on the map.
Toward the lake
East of the city the streets thin out toward Lake St. Clair, leaving open ground and water that give the composition room to breathe.
