Muthupet lagoon
A broad, shallow lagoon lies south of town. Its irregular shoreline and mangrove islets produce some of the most intricate shapes on the print.

Muthupet Map Poster & Print
Muthupet is a town in the Tiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu, near the southern edge of the Cauvery delta. On the map the town is a modest pattern of streets and markets, but the real subject lies just to the south. There a broad lagoon and a maze of tidal channels open toward the Palk Strait.
The Muthupet mangroves are among the most extensive on the Tamil Nadu coast: a protected wetland threaded with creeks where branches of the delta reach the sea. The area is also known for the migratory birds that arrive in winter. From above, the mangroves and water form an intricate, branching pattern, strikingly different from the irrigation channels and field boundaries to the north.
A Muthupet map poster sets the tight pattern of the town against the looser lines of the delta and the ragged shoreline of the lagoon. It suits families from the area, people who know this coast well, and anyone drawn to maps where land and water are hard to separate.

Mangrove creeks
Tidal channels wind through the protected mangrove forest in a branching pattern that looks almost hand-drawn on the finished map.
Delta farmland
North of town, the irrigated fields of the Cauvery delta are laced with canals and village roads, giving a quieter, more regular texture.
