Neu-Ulm Map Poster & Print
Neu-Ulm sits on the right bank of the Danube, directly opposite Ulm, which is in Baden-Württemberg. The river is a state border here, and from above the two cities read as one urban area split by a band of water and joined by a series of bridges. The spire of Ulm Minster, the tallest church tower in the world, rises just across the river from Neu-Ulm's riverside.
The town grew largely in the nineteenth century as part of the Federal Fortress of Ulm, a huge defensive system that spanned both banks. Sections of its walls and bastions survive in Neu-Ulm, and the green spaces laid out along them, including the Glacis park, still trace the old line of fortification. South of the centre, the Iller flows into the Danube.
A Neu-Ulm map poster frames the Danube and the cities on either side in one composition. Parks such as the Glacis follow the angled line of the nineteenth-century fortifications, drawing a distinctive green arc around the older town centre.
Iller confluence
To the south, the Iller joins the Danube, and the meeting of the two rivers adds branching water shapes to the edge of the city.
