Penicuik Map Poster & Print
Penicuik lies about ten miles south of Edinburgh, on the River North Esk at the foot of the Pentland Hills. The river runs through a wooded valley along the town's edge. On the map its winding course, lined by paths and former industrial sites, contrasts with the more regular residential streets on the higher ground.
For more than two centuries Penicuik was a paper-making town, with mills along the North Esk supplying paper far beyond Scotland. The mills have closed, but the valley still carries their traces. The town centre is compact and walkable, and later housing extends in curving estates toward the hills and the open farmland that surrounds the town on most sides.
A Penicuik map poster shows a town on a threshold, between the city to the north and the upland moor of the Pentlands. The Penicuik House estate lies just to the west as open parkland and woodland. The hills beyond leave quiet, empty space at the edge of the print, which emphasises the town's compact form.

Pentland Hills edge
To the northwest, the streets stop where the Pentland Hills begin, leaving open ground on the map that frames the town against the uplands.
Penicuik House estate
West of the town, the historic estate forms a large area of parkland and woods, a calm, lightly marked section of the print beside the built-up area.
