Hill-following roads
Lanes rarely run straight here. They trace the contours of low laterite hills, looping around slopes and climbing along ridges, which gives the map its soft, meandering line quality.

Perumanna Map Poster & Print
Perumanna sits a short distance inland from Kozhikode, in the Kozhikode district of northern Kerala. From above it does not read as a single compact town. It reads as a spread of small roads and footpaths that branch, curve and rejoin across rolling ground, with homes and gardens scattered along them rather than packed into blocks. The pattern is typical of the Malabar midlands, where settlement follows the land instead of a surveyor's grid.
The terrain shapes almost everything you see on the map. Low rounded hills push the roads into long bends, while the flatter hollows between them, traditionally used for paddy and kept wet through the monsoon, leave open pale gaps in the linework. A few busier routes cut through the area toward the city and the neighbouring panchayats, and these stand out as firmer, steadier strokes against the finer mesh of local lanes.
A Perumanna map poster captures that quiet, organic geometry: no river grid, no ring road, just a network that grew one household and one path at a time. In black and white the effect is close to a drawing of veins or roots, dense in some pockets and sparse in others. For anyone who knows the place, the empty spaces are as recognisable as the streets themselves.

Open valley floors
Between the rises lie flatter, low-lying stretches that historically held paddy fields and water through the rainy season. On the poster they appear as calm blank areas framed by surrounding lanes.
Links toward Kozhikode
A handful of more substantial roads connect Perumanna with Kozhikode city and nearby villages. They cross the finer local network as clearer through-lines and help orient the whole composition.

Niyə Perumanna
Məna daşıyan xəritə
People hang this map to keep a specific corner of Malabar close: a family home, a childhood walk to school, the road back from the city. It is a modest place, and the poster treats it with the same attention usually reserved for capitals, which is often exactly the point.
You can set your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps a family name or a year that matters, and choose from five styles: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The digital files cost $9, or you can order a printed poster, framed if you like.
