Harbour basins
The port's angular basins and long quays are the most striking shapes on the map, cut into the former lagoon and linked to the ocean through a single channel between breakwaters.

Richards Bay Map Poster & Print
Richards Bay is shaped almost entirely by water. The town lies on the KwaZulu-Natal coast where the Mhlathuze River once spread into a shallow lagoon, and the modern harbour was dredged out of that estuary. On the map the port dominates: long quays, rectangular basins and rail sidings form a hard-edged industrial pattern that contrasts with the soft outlines of the surrounding wetlands.
The town itself is young, laid out largely from the 1970s as the harbour opened, and its suburbs follow a planned pattern of looping residential streets, cul-de-sacs and green buffers. Lake Mzingazi sits just to the north, a broad freshwater lake whose irregular shoreline presses against the houses, while a band of coastal dune forest separates town and ocean.
The town is named after a nineteenth-century Royal Navy admiral, Sir Frederick Richards. Its harbour is among the busiest bulk ports in the country, and its coal terminal is one of the largest coal export facilities in the world. A Richards Bay map poster turns that working landscape into something graphic: breakwaters, berths and lakes rendered as clean black shapes against the open sea.

Lake Mzingazi
A large freshwater lake immediately north of the town, its many inlets and fingers giving the poster an organic counterweight to the straight geometry of the harbour.
Coastal edge
A nearly straight Indian Ocean shoreline runs past the town, backed by dunes and bush. Beaches such as Alkantstrand sit near the harbour mouth, where the coastline meets the breakwaters.

Niyə Richards Bay
Məna daşıyan xəritə
Richards Bay speaks to people who worked the port, grew up in its suburbs or spent holidays on the north coast. The map balances industry and nature in a way that feels unusually clear on a wall.
Personalise the title and subtitle with a family name, a posting or a year, and adjust the coordinates line. Then choose one of five styles: Blueprint suits the harbour's engineered lines, while Sand or Paper softens the lakes and dunes into something warmer.
