Ribbon villages
Houses line the main roads for long stretches, so the built-up area appears as thin bands and not as solid blocks. It is a typical Flemish pattern and very graphic on paper.

Stekene Map Poster & Print
Stekene is in the Waasland, the flat country of East Flanders between Ghent and Antwerp, and its northern edge follows the border with the Netherlands. On a map the municipality has no single dense city core. It reads as a network of long roads with houses strung along them, crossed by drainage ditches and small canals that keep the low ground workable.
The municipality includes the village of Kemzeke as well as Stekene itself, and each has a modest centre where the roads converge around a church. Between and beyond them the landscape opens into fields, woods and polder land. There the lines on the map become sparser and straighter, a pattern shaped by drainage and reclamation rather than by hills or rivers.
A Stekene map poster suits people who like quiet, linear compositions. With no hills to bend the roads, the drawing is built from long, measured strokes and small clusters of streets. The border running along the top of the map adds a sense of place, since Flanders and Zeeland meet here almost without any visible change.

Ditches and canals
A web of drainage channels crosses the fields and follows the roads. These fine parallel lines give the open parts of the map texture and show how carefully the flat land is managed.
Border country
The northern edge of the municipality is the Belgian-Dutch border. The road network carries straight on across it, which makes for an unusual frame when the map is drawn wide.
