Airport runways
Allegheny County Airport's intersecting runways form the sharpest geometry on the sheet, a clear set of straight strokes among the borough's otherwise winding residential streets.

West Mifflin Map Poster & Print
West Mifflin is a borough in Allegheny County, south-east of Pittsburgh, on the high ground above the Monongahela River. From above it looks the way many places in western Pennsylvania do: streets follow the ridges and hollows rather than a compass grid. Cul-de-sacs, winding roads and older straight blocks sit next to each other. Wooded ravines fall steeply toward the water.
Two features stand out on the map. Allegheny County Airport occupies a broad, flat stretch of the plateau, and its runways cut clean geometric lines through the surrounding housing. Kennywood, the amusement park that has entertained Pittsburgh families for more than a century and is listed as a National Historic Landmark, sits near the river side of the borough.
A West Mifflin map poster brings these contrasts together: the hard lines of the runways, the loose curves of suburban lanes, and the heavy dark band of the Monongahela with the old steel towns along its banks. It is an honest picture of a place shaped by industry, terrain and the outward growth of a river city.

Monongahela edge
The river runs along the borough's northern side and gives the composition a strong, weighty boundary, with steep wooded slopes separating the plateau from the water below.
Ridge-and-hollow streets
Roads follow the uneven terrain instead of a grid, so the street pattern reads like contour lines, looping around hills and dropping into the valleys between them.

For people who grew up here, the map holds summer days at Kennywood, drives past the airfield and the view down to the river. It's a quiet reminder of home for anyone who has moved away from the Pittsburgh area.
