Achhībal lies in Anantnag district in the south of the Kashmir Valley, where the valley floor meets the lower slopes of the surrounding mountains. On a map the town is a compact cluster of lanes and houses. The town is best known for the Achabal garden, a Mughal garden associated with Empress Nur Jahan. It is laid out on a slope below a powerful natural spring, whose water is channelled down through terraces, cascades and fountains.
