Acklins Map Poster
Acklins lies in the southern Bahamas, curving along the eastern side of the Bight of Acklins, a broad and very shallow lagoon it shares with Crooked Island to the north. On a map the island is a thin, crescent-like strip of land, with the Atlantic on one side and the pale, still waters of the bight on the other.
A single road follows most of the island, connecting a string of small settlements spread along its length. Salt ponds, mangrove creeks and tidal flats fill much of the shoreline facing the bight, and at the southern end Castle Island stands offshore with its lighthouse. The population is small, and much of the island is left to scrub and water.
Acklins and Crooked Island are known among anglers for their bonefish flats.
