Aflou Map Poster & Print
Aflou lies in the Djebel Amour, part of Algeria's Saharan Atlas, at a considerable altitude for the region. On a map it appears as a compact town on high, open ground, with roads leading out across the plateau toward distant settlements. Mountain ridges and dry valleys surround it, and there is very little built land between Aflou and the horizon.
The town is known for its cold winters, which surprise people who think of Laghouat province only as the desert's edge. Snow is not unusual here. The surrounding country has long been associated with pastoral life and with the Ouled Nail and other communities of the highlands. Aflou serves as the main market and service centre for a very large, sparsely populated area.
