Al Aşābi‘ah lies in the Jabal al Gharbi district of north-western Libya, on the plateau of the Nafusa Mountains south-west of Gharyan. The land here is high, dry and open, and from above the town appears as a cluster of streets set within a wide landscape of farm plots, olive trees and bare ground, connected to neighbouring towns by long, straight roads.
The Nafusa plateau has been settled for a very long time, and its towns tend to be compact, adapted to hot summers and limited water.
