Alwaye Map Poster & Print
Alwaye, now officially Aluva, lies on the Periyar River in Ernakulam district, just north of Kochi. The river is the defining feature of its map: it curves around the town and divides into branches, so that water frames the streets on several sides and bridges carry the main roads across.
On the riverbank, the sandbank known as Aluva Manappuram hosts the Sivarathri festival, which draws large crowds each year. Aluva is also a transport hub: the national highway and the main railway line pass through, the Kochi Metro begins here, and Cochin International Airport lies a short distance to the north-east.
