Athens Map Poster & Print
Athens is the seat of Limestone County in northern Alabama, west of the Huntsville area. On a map its centre follows a familiar Southern pattern: a courthouse square, with a tight grid of streets around it holding the older commercial and residential blocks. Further out the grid loosens into winding subdivisions and long rural roads.
The town is home to Athens State University, one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in Alabama. Its campus is a distinct block of green and buildings near the historic core. An Athens map poster shows the square, the campus and the older neighbourhoods together, with highways and newer growth wrapping around them.
The map also shows Athens growing toward its neighbours. Interstate 65 passes to the east, and the roads toward Huntsville and Decatur have drawn new building along them. In black and white you can see both layers at once: the planned nineteenth-century centre and the looser twentieth-century edges.
