Bahacheve Map Poster & Print
Bahacheve, known until recently as Vatutine, is a town in Cherkasy Oblast in central Ukraine. It was founded after the Second World War as a settlement for workers in the local brown-coal mines, and its layout reflects that origin. Its streets are planned, with residential blocks, broad avenues and public spaces arranged in a regular pattern typical of Soviet-era new towns.
The town was renamed Bahacheve in 2024 as part of Ukraine's wider effort to remove Soviet-era names. Around it, the land is typical of central Ukraine: fertile farmland, small rivers and ponds, and scattered villages linked by rural roads. The former mining areas have left their own traces in the landscape.
