Battle Ground Map Poster & Print
Battle Ground lies in Clark County in southwest Washington, north of Vancouver and the Columbia River. Its name comes from a tense standoff in 1855 between Klickitat people and soldiers from Fort Vancouver, which ended without a battle. Today it is one of the faster-growing communities in the county, and from above its older centre is surrounded by expanding residential neighbourhoods.
The street pattern mixes straight section-line roads from the area's farming past with the curving streets and cul-de-sacs of newer subdivisions. To the east the land rises toward the foothills of the Cascades, and nearby Battle Ground Lake State Park surrounds a small lake in a volcanic crater. On the map, forest and farmland frame the town on several sides.
