Boyabat lies inland in Sinop Province, in a wide valley south of the Black Sea coastal mountains, where the Gökırmak flows through fertile farmland. The town sits at the foot of a steep rock crowned by the remains of Boyabat Castle, a fortification whose origins reach back to antiquity.
