A knot of streets
The town centre is a compact tangle of short, bending streets where the terrain allows building. It stands out clearly from the sparse roads around it.

Changling Map Poster & Print
Changling is a town in northeastern Chongqing, in the rugged landscape that lines the Yangtze on its way toward the Three Gorges. The area is made of ridges, gullies and terraced slopes, and the town has grown to fit that ground. Built-up streets gather where the land allows, and the roads between them follow the easiest line across the hills.
The result on a map is a loose, uneven network. It has a denser knot of streets at the centre, looser strands leading away, and wide stretches where only a single winding road crosses the terrain. Nothing lines up with the compass. That irregularity is what makes the area interesting to look at from above.
A Changling map poster works well at a slightly wider scale, where the bending roads and scattered clusters form a pattern of their own. In black and white, the hill roads look like threads pulled across the paper. It is a map of a place shaped much more by its terrain than by planning.

Ridge and gully roads
Connecting roads run along ridges and dip through hollows, so they bend often and rarely run straight for any distance.
Yangtze hill country
The town belongs to the folded landscape of the upper Yangtze in Chongqing, where slopes and valleys set the shape of every settlement.

For people from Changling or the wider Wanzhou area, this map is a clear, uncluttered reminder of home. For others, it is an abstract study of how roads settle into steep ground, and it sits comfortably next to photographs or plain furniture.
