Charlotte Map Poster & Print
Charlotte grew from a crossroads, and the map still shows it. Uptown is centred on the intersection of Trade and Tryon streets, dividing the core into four historic wards. A tight inner loop of highways wraps around this centre, and beyond it the street pattern loosens into curving residential roads spread over the gently rolling Piedmont.
Named after Queen Charlotte, wife of George III, the city is often called the Queen City. It has become one of the largest banking centres in the United States, which explains the cluster of towers in Uptown. Much of the rest of the city is known for its dense tree canopy, which softens the view from above.
