Dongen Map Poster & Print
Dongen lies in North Brabant, north-west of Tilburg, in the flat, sandy country typical of this part of the Netherlands. The town has a small historic centre around its church and main street, from which older roads lead out toward neighbouring villages. Around it, twentieth-century neighbourhoods fill in the spaces in neat, planned blocks, and the edges of town meet farmland and patches of woodland.
The Wilhelmina Canal passes along the town, a long straight waterway that gives the map a firm boundary line. Dongen was long associated with leather tanning and shoemaking, industries that shaped its growth in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The small river Donge, which gave the town its name, begins nearby and winds north across the landscape.
