Donghai lies in eastern Guangdong, within the county-level city of Lufeng in Shanwei prefecture, not far from the coast of the South China Sea. The map shows a town that has expanded across a coastal plain, with an older core of narrow streets surrounded by broad modern avenues, new residential compounds and industrial sites.
Low hills rise around the plain and small rivers run toward the sea, so the urban area is shaped partly by water and partly by slope.
