El Hamma Map Poster & Print
El Hamma lies west of Gabès in southern Tunisia, where the coastal plain begins to turn into desert. The name refers to its hot springs, which have been used for bathing since antiquity. On a map the town is a compact built-up area, surrounded by the fine pattern of irrigated oasis gardens and palm groves.
The older parts of town have narrow, winding lanes, while newer districts follow straighter roads toward Gabès and Kebili. Around the town, small plots and water channels form a dense mosaic. Beyond it the land opens quickly into dry, almost empty ground, with a few straight roads running across it.
