Fairbanks Map Poster & Print
Fairbanks is the largest city in Alaska's interior, set in the broad Tanana Valley. From above, the compact downtown grid sits along the winding Chena River, which loops through the city before joining the Tanana to the southwest. Around the centre, neighbourhoods spread out along highways, with military land, lakes and forest filling much of the surrounding space.
The city was founded as a trading post during the gold rush of the early 1900s and grew into a regional centre for the interior. Today it is home to the University of Alaska Fairbanks and is known as one of the best places in the United States to see the northern lights during the long winter nights.
