Fenhe Map Poster & Print
Fenhe is a town in the far north-east of Chongqing municipality, in the mountainous country around the Yangtze's Three Gorges region. This is some of the most rugged terrain in central China. Deep valleys cut between high ridges, and flat land is scarce enough that every road and building has to follow the contours.
Fenhe's map shows that directly. The streets squeeze into a narrow band where the valley allows, often in one or two long parallel lines instead of a grid. Roads leave town in switchbacks and long curves, and small villages scatter along the slopes. In print the effect is spare and linear, a settlement drawn by the mountains.
