Frenda Map Poster & Print
Frenda is in Tiaret Province in north-western Algeria, on the high plateaus between the Tell Atlas and the steppe. The land is elevated and open, with farmland and rocky outcrops. On a map the town is a compact network of streets on rising ground, with roads leading across the plateau to neighbouring towns.
The area is best known for Ibn Khaldun. In the fourteenth century the historian withdrew to Qal'at Ibn Salama near Frenda, where he wrote the Muqaddimah, the introduction to his universal history and a founding work of historical and social thought. The place is part of the region's intellectual heritage.
