Giulianova Map Poster & Print
Giulianova is really two towns in one. The historic centre sits on a hill a short distance back from the coast, with a compact knot of streets around its main church. Below it, a newer district stretches along the Adriatic in parallel bands: the beach, the seafront promenade, the railway and the streets behind them.
The town was founded in the fifteenth century by Giulio Antonio Acquaviva, from whom it takes its name, as a new settlement on higher ground. Its cathedral of San Flaviano, with an octagonal plan and dome, is the landmark of the upper town. Today the harbour and beaches make it one of the familiar resorts of the Abruzzo coast.
