Görlitz Map Poster & Print
Görlitz lies on the west bank of the Neisse in Saxony, and it is the easternmost city in Germany. Across the river is Zgorzelec, which formed part of the same town until 1945. On a map the two halves face each other across the water, and the Altstadtbrücke footbridge reconnects them at the old town.
The historic centre survived the war largely intact, with its narrow medieval streets, market squares and churches. It is an unusually complete townscape and has been used in many international films. Around it, a ring of wide nineteenth-century streets and later districts spreads west, and the Landeskrone hill rises beyond the southwest edge of town.
A Görlitz map poster shows a city divided and joined by a river: dense old lanes pressed against the Neisse, the looser grid of the Gründerzeit city beyond, and the Polish streets mirroring them on the other bank. Few maps tell a border story so clearly.
