Gudauri stands high on the southern side of the Greater Caucasus, beside the Georgian Military Road that crosses the mountains towards Kazbegi and the Russian border. On a map the resort sits on a broad, sunny shelf. Its hotels and residences are grouped close to the road, and wide treeless slopes rise above.
