Hammam-Lif Map Poster & Print
Hammam-Lif lies south-east of Tunis, on the southern shore of the Gulf of Tunis. Its map is defined by a tight squeeze: the town runs along a narrow band of land between the sea and the steep slopes of Djebel Bou Kornine, whose twin summits rise directly behind the streets and give the skyline its familiar outline.
The name refers to the thermal springs that made it a resort in the nineteenth century, when the beys of Tunis built residences here and visitors came to bathe. The town is also known to archaeologists for the mosaics of an ancient synagogue discovered nearby in the 1880s, and to Tunisian football followers for its long-established club.
