Huánuco Map Poster & Print
Huánuco sits at about 1,900 metres in the Andes of central Peru, in the valley of the Huallaga River. On a map the city stretches along the river's course, and the mountains close in on both sides. The centre keeps the regular Spanish colonial grid around the Plaza de Armas, while newer districts follow the valley floor up and down the river.
The city is often promoted for its mild, sunny climate, which is noticeably warmer than the high Andean towns nearby. Just outside town lies Kotosh, an archaeological site known for the Temple of the Crossed Hands, one of the oldest ceremonial structures found in the Andes.
