Ibiza Map Poster & Print
Ibiza town, Eivissa in Catalan, is built around its harbour on the southeast coast of the island. The map has a clear centre of gravity: Dalt Vila, the old town, rises on a hill enclosed by angular Renaissance fortifications. Below it the port curves around sheltered water, and the modern town spreads west and north in a looser grid of streets.
Dalt Vila's walls were built in the sixteenth century, and in 1999 the town was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with the island's Posidonia seagrass meadows and archaeological sites. From above, the bastions are easy to pick out: sharp star-shaped points that stand apart from everything built later.

The harbour curve
The port wraps around a sheltered basin between the old town and the breakwaters. Its smooth waterline gives the composition a strong, calm arc.
Bays and coastline
Beyond the centre, the coast breaks into bays and small headlands, with Talamanca to the northeast and Figueretes to the southwest. They frame the town with an irregular edge of sea.
