Ikaruga Map Poster & Print
This Ikaruga lies in Hyōgo Prefecture, on the Harima Plain a short distance west of Himeji. From above, it is a spread of residential streets, older village clusters and rice paddies, with wooded hills rising at the edges of the plain. Rail and road lines cross it on their way along the Inland Sea coast.
The name links the area to Prince Shōtoku, the early statesman and patron of Buddhism. Local tradition connects the temple here, Ikaruga-dera, to his estates in Harima. It shares the name of the better-known Ikaruga in Nara, home to Hōryū-ji.
