Irará is a town in the interior of Bahia, north of Salvador and not far from Feira de Santana, in a landscape that sits between the humid coast and the drier sertão. The town is widely known as the birthplace of the musician Tom Zé, one of the key figures of Brazil's Tropicália movement.
