Itaíba is a municipality of around 34,000 people in the interior of Pernambuco, in the semi-arid part of northeastern Brazil. Much of the population lives in rural areas across the municipality, and the town itself is the local service and market centre.
On a map, the town is a small, fairly orderly grid of streets, with a central square area and blocks running out from it.
