Jilin Map Poster & Print
Jilin City lies in north-east China in the province that shares its name, and its map is dominated by the Songhua River, which curves through the centre in a broad S shape. The main districts line both banks, bridges cross the river at close intervals, and wooded hills close in around the city on nearly every side. From above it reads as a city built into a river valley.
Upstream, the Fengman Dam holds back Songhua Lake, one of the largest reservoirs in the region. In winter the relatively warm water released from the dam keeps the river from freezing, and the mist settles on the trees along the banks as rime ice, a sight known as wusong that draws visitors each year. Beishan Park, with temples on its hillside, overlooks the city from the north-west.
