Kayna is a town in North Kivu province, in the green highlands of eastern DR Congo. It lies along the main road that links the region's towns from north to south, and on a map that road is the spine of the settlement. Streets and houses gather on either side of it, then give way to farmland on the surrounding hills.
The area lies west of Lake Edward and near the Virunga National Park, one of Africa's oldest national parks. The high rainfall and fertile soil support dense farming, which shows on the map as small plots and paths spreading out across the hills around the town.
