Kheda Map Poster & Print
Kheda lies in central Gujarat, south of Ahmedabad, on the fertile alluvial plain between the Sabarmati and Mahi rivers. The town gives its name to Kheda district and sits beside the Vatrak river, whose curving course is the clearest natural line on its map. Around the town spreads flat, intensively farmed country crossed by canals, roads and village tracks.
The name is well known in Indian history. In 1918 farmers here, facing crop failure, refused to pay land revenue in a campaign supported by Mahatma Gandhi and led on the ground by Vallabhbhai Patel. The Kheda Satyagraha became one of the early episodes of Gandhi's movement in India and helped establish Patel as a national leader.
