Kilmarnock Map Poster & Print
Kilmarnock is the largest town in East Ayrshire, in southwest Scotland. The Kilmarnock Water runs through it from the north, and the older streets grew along that river and the crossings over it. From above, the centre is an irregular knot of streets. Around it, later housing spreads in curving estates, and main roads leave in several directions towards Glasgow and the Ayrshire coast.
The town has a notable place in Scottish culture. In 1786 a local printer published Robert Burns's first collection of poems, now known as the Kilmarnock Edition. It is also the town where Johnnie Walker whisky began, in a grocer's shop in the nineteenth century. Its football club, Kilmarnock FC, plays at Rugby Park.
