Legnago Map Poster & Print
Legnago stands on both banks of the Adige River in the lower Veronese plain. From above, the river cuts straight through the town, with the older centre on one bank and the district of Porto on the other, joined by bridges. The land all around is completely flat, made of fields and drainage channels arranged in a fine, regular pattern.
In the nineteenth century Legnago was one of the four fortress towns of the Austrian Quadrilateral, together with Verona, Mantua and Peschiera. Traces of that military past remain in the shape of the town. Legnago is also the birthplace of the composer Antonio Salieri, and the town theatre carries his name.

Legnago was one of four Austrian fortress towns in the region. Its defensive past still shows in how the historic centre is laid out along the river.
Salieri's hometown
Composer Antonio Salieri was born here, and the town theatre is named after him. It is a cultural reference point in the centre of Legnago.
