Lier Map Poster & Print
Lier lies in the province of Antwerp, where the Grote Nete and Kleine Nete rivers meet. Its historic centre is enclosed by a ring of former ramparts, now a green belt and a line of roads and water. On a map, that ring gives the town a clear, almost oval outline, with the rivers and canals crossing through it.
Inside the ring, the streets converge on the Grote Markt and its belfry, part of a UNESCO listing of Belgian belfries. Lier's beguinage, also a World Heritage Site, is a small quarter of narrow lanes. The Zimmer Tower, with its astronomical clock, stands near the water on the edge of the old centre.
