Limbach-Oberfrohna is a Saxon town formed in 1950, when Limbach and Oberfrohna were joined into a single municipality. From above, that double origin still shows. Two older street clusters sit a short distance apart, linked by later housing and roads that follow the folds of the land rather than any single plan. The result is a town that reads as a network of centres rather than one core.
The surrounding landscape is the undulating foreland of the Ore Mountains. Small streams cut shallow valleys, and the streets bend to follow them.
