Madhubani Map Poster & Print
Madhubani is a town in northern Bihar, in the Mithila region close to the border with Nepal. The land here is part of the wide, flat Gangetic plain, crossed by rivers flowing down from the Himalaya. From above, the town is a dense network of lanes and small blocks. Many ponds are scattered through the neighbourhoods, and fields press close on every side.
Madhubani gives its name to one of India's best-known folk art traditions. Madhubani, or Mithila, painting is known for fine lines, bold patterns and scenes from myth and daily life. It was traditionally painted on the walls of homes and is now known around the world. The town's railway station was decorated with these paintings, turning it into a gallery for travellers.
