Mityana Map Poster & Print
Mityana lies in Uganda's Central Region, west of Kampala on the road toward Mubende and Fort Portal. From above, the town is organised along that highway, with a denser commercial centre on the main road and residential streets branching off into the surrounding hills. Farmland, small wetlands and scattered homesteads fill the landscape beyond the built-up area.
The town is the centre of Mityana District and a market for the farm produce of the surrounding countryside. Lake Wamala lies nearby, a shallow lake fringed by wetlands and used by local fishing communities. Mityana is also linked to the history of the Uganda Martyrs, the Christian converts killed in the kingdom of Buganda in the 1880s.
