Móstoles sits just under twenty kilometres southwest of central Madrid, and from above it reads as a single tight mass of apartment blocks with a clear edge. Until the 1960s it was a farming village. On 2 May 1808 its mayors issued a proclamation calling the country to rise against Napoleon's troops, a moment the town still commemorates.
