Nuenen is a village in North Brabant on the northeastern edge of Eindhoven. On a map it reads as a clearly defined settlement surrounded by fields, woodland and small watercourses. The historic centre lies around a long central green and is ringed by quiet residential streets that fade into the countryside.
Vincent van Gogh lived in Nuenen from 1883 to 1885, when his father was the local minister, and painted a large body of work here, including The Potato Eaters.
