Oakland Park lies just north of Fort Lauderdale in Broward County. It shows the typical South Florida pattern: a firm grid of residential streets, major roads running north to south parallel to the Atlantic shore, and water breaking into the grid wherever canals and the Middle River branches wind through it.
The city was first incorporated in the 1920s land boom under the name Floranada, and it was later reorganised as Oakland Park. Development patterns from several decades show up on the map.
