Pacific Grove sits at the northern tip of the Monterey Peninsula in California, next to Monterey. It began in 1875 as a Methodist retreat, and the tent lots of that camp became the unusually small, regular parcels of the old town. Many Victorian cottages survive on them today.

At the point stands the Point Pinos Lighthouse, the oldest continuously operating lighthouse on the West Coast.
