Piratini is a town in the south of Rio Grande do Sul, in the rolling, grassy hill country known as the Serra do Sudeste. The town holds an important place in Brazilian history: in 1836, during the Ragamuffin War, it became the first capital of the short-lived Riograndense Republic.
