Plainfield Map Poster & Print
Plainfield is a city in Union County, New Jersey, on the flat land just south of the Watchung Mountains. It grew as a railroad suburb in the nineteenth century. Today NJ Transit's Raritan Valley Line still runs through it and forms a clear diagonal across the street pattern. Downtown sits close to the tracks, with a regular grid of blocks spreading out around it.
The city is known as the Queen City. Its residential neighbourhoods include many well-preserved Victorian and early twentieth-century houses, several of them protected as historic districts. Those areas show on the map as streets with generous lots and gentle curves. Green Brook marks part of the southern edge, and the wooded Watchung ridges rise just to the north.
